The gestureA single pick stroke every three notes. The picking hand does a quarter of the fretting hand's work.
Target noteThe root, on the way out: you usually stop on the A instead of completing the fourth triplet.
Over which chordOver the whole progression.
The rhythmJust two notes in triplets over a 4/4: the ternary subdivision cuts across the binary pulse. Each triplet lands on the beat, so it isn't a displaced figure — it's a countercurrent inside the same grid.
Common mistakeLegato notes weaker than the picked one. Pull-offs and hammer-ons come out at half volume and the triplet limps. Work it the other way around: pick softly so the legato notes can hold their own.
